Position Overview The Director of Engineering provides strategic leadership and technical oversight to the engineering team, driving operational excellence across all manufacturing processes. This role spearheads process optimization and facility modernization through targeted equipment and process upgrades. Additionally, they identify and integrate new technologies to enhance safety, production efficiency, and product quality. Qualifications Qualified candidates will have a BS degree in manufacturing engineering or related field and minimum of five years of experience leading engineers in a manufacturing industry. Preferred candidates will have experience in sheet metal bending and fabrication, ISO (9000 and 14000) compliant operations and lean/ six sigma certification. Other combinations of education and experience will be considered. Knowledge and Experience - Proficiency in blueprint reading, design and model creation using CAD and solid modeling software (Solid Works preferred) - Formal training and/or experience creating manufacturing processes that prioritize operator safety - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to facilitate group problem solving and implementation activities - Demonstrated expertise in identifying and integrating cutting-edge engineering methodologies and design trends - Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) - Exceptional organizational and time-management skills, with a strong attention to detail - Excellent written and verbal communication skills - Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact with all levels of the organization professionally - Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment Accountability and Essential Functions The job duties listed below are the fundamental job duties of this position. Failure to perform any one of these duties would substantially alter the nature of the position. Leadership, Management, Accountability Model Core Values - Train, assign work, monitor results, mentor, and provide feedback and development opportunities to direct reports - Ensure work is completed safely, on time, with proper quality and within budget - Develop, establish, and implement long-range and short-term strategies and operate policies to achieve established departmental goals and objectives. - Develop and submit reports to the Executive Team as to current status of projects, compliance with schedules, and budget maintenance. Daily manufacturing engineering support - Confer with management and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes - Prioritize Operations by ensuring they are always equipped and supported with the technical expertise required. Process improvement / Root cause identification- manufacturing process - Review customer designs and make recommendations to improve design, reduce costs, or increase production efficiency (Design for Manufacturability) Program engineering - Direct and develop the Manufacturing Engineering team, focusing on Bills of Materials (BOMs), Bills of Operations (BOOs), Product value stream flow and profitability - Determine engineering hours and project costs to provide project estimates used in the development of quotes. Support NPI - Collaborate cross functionally within NPI process for customer programs and projects - Manage the successful transition of new products and technology into the Operations organization Marginal Functions - Seek and perform alternate, productive tasks to keep busy during unexpected down time - Perform other duties as assigned or requested The duties listed in this job description are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. Personal Protective Equipment All equipment listed below is required when in production areas and is provided by the company unless otherwise specified: - Eye protection - Safety shoes - Other PPE required depending on tasks performed Tools/Equipment Used - Computer and other standard office equipment - Hand and power tools - Manufacturing equipment - Crane / hoist and other lifting devices Physical Demands and Work Environment The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The usual and customary methods of performing the job functions require using fingers to type, handle objects, tools and controls. Generally, the job requires 85% sitting. The employee is regularly required to talk and hear to communicate with others. Incumbent is required to have visual acuity to perform activities such as viewing a computer terminal, analyzing data, etc. The noise and temperature are commensurate with a typical office environment. Alternate physical demands exist when in the manufacturing setting to perform work. This could include- Using fingers to handle objects, tools and controls. Continuous wrist and finger movement for carrying and using equipment, tools (working with small bolts, nuts, screws, adding inserts, flushing out parts, flaming parts) etc. The employee may be required to push and/or pull up to 60 pounds; lift and/or carry 40 pounds. Required standing, twisting, bending, pushing, pulling, carrying, stooping, reaching and grasping up to 8+ hours per day for a few consecutive days during the implementation phase of a project. The noise and temperature level are above average, or commensurate with a typical manufacturing environment. Monday-Thursday 7:30am-4:30pm, Friday 7:30am-2:00pm
