As a Senior Director of Software Engineering AuthE Global at JPMorgan Chase within the Chief Technology Office and Identity & Access Management, you lead multiple technical areas, manage the activities of multiple departments, and collaborate across technical domains. Your expertise is applied cross-functionally to drive the adoption and implementation of technical methods within various teams and aid the firm in remaining at the forefront of industry trends, best practices, and technological advances.
Job responsibilities
Define and lead the engineering strategy for mission-critical, high-volume customer authentication platforms with strict availability targets. Serve as a firmwide senior technology advisor on Customer Authentication and IAM strategy. Provide enterprise-level technical leadership and architectural governance for customer authentication platforms, leveraging standards-based protocols (OIDC, SAML2, FIDO2). Own and evolve full-stack architecture across application, data, and infrastructure layers (Java services, APIs, databases, messaging, and supporting infrastructure). Review and validate solution designs to ensure security, scalability, resiliency, and performance across development, test, and production environments. Drive execution across multiple concurrent enterprise initiatives, managing delivery priorities, dependencies, and technical risk. Make decisions impacting resourcing, budget, tactical operations, and the implementation of processes and procedures. Partner with Product, Operations, Risk, and Lines of Business to align authentication capabilities with business strategy, regulatory expectations, and customer experience goals. Lead and mentor globally distributed senior engineering teams, building a culture of engineering excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement. Sets and scales multi-department strategy for agentic AI-enabled engineering and SDLC/TLM automation (using enterprise-authorized tools within the work environment) to drive firmwide objectives (speed, scalability, reliability, and cost-to-serve), including portfolio-level standards for AI-orchestrated delivery workflows, release governance, automated test modernization, resilience engineering, and incident response acceleration; establishes guardrails for validation, security, resiliency, traceability, and reuse. Applies knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to drive cross-domain reuse and measurable capacity unlock outcomes across departments.
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 10+ years applied experience. In addition, 5+ years of experience leading technologists to manage, anticipate and solve complex technical items within your domain of expertise Enterprise architecture leadership experience owning end-to-end application, data, and infrastructure architecture for large-scale platforms (e.g., Java services, APIs, databases, messaging, cloud/on-prem infrastructure). Hands-on software engineering background, with demonstrated ability to write, review, and troubleshoot production-grade code (e.g., Java and related backend technologies), and to coach teams through design and implementation decisions. Demonstrated leadership of mission-critical, high-volume customer-facing platforms Proven ability to design/review solutions for security, resiliency, scalability, and performance across dev/test/prod with strong engineering governance. Strong technical program execution skills, managing multiple concurrent initiatives, dependencies, prioritization, and delivery risk. Experience as a senior decision-maker influencing resources, budget, and operating model/processes across teams. Track record of effective cross-functional leadership partnering with Product, Operations, Risk, and Lines of Business, including navigating regulatory and audit expectations for authentication/security controls. Proven people leadership: ability to lead and mentor globally distributed senior engineers, building a culture of accountability, engineering excellence, and continuous improvement. Experience leading multi-organization adoption of agentic AI-enabled engineering operating models (using enterprise-authorized tools within the work environment), including defining governance (human-in-the-loop decisioning, quality gates), measurement frameworks, and secure handling of sensitive inputs/outputs across teams. Deep understanding of responsible AI risk, controls, and resiliency/security expectations at scale, with demonstrated ability to advise senior leaders on safe adoption, portfolio governance, and reuse-first strategies.
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
Experience in IAM and customer authentication, including hands-on experience with OIDC/OAuth2, SAML2, and FIDO2/WebAuthn, plus modern authentication patterns (MFA, risk-based/step-up auth, federation, SSO). Excellent executive communication skills, able to translate complex technical trade-offs into clear decisions for senior stakeholders.
